Voxyonder

With an aim to build an ecosystem of interconnect options as a growing communications provider, Voxyonder opted for Telehouse based on its access to connectivity partners and ability to comply with regulations.

Voxyonder is a voice network and service communications provider. Unlike many other communication providers in the UK, the organisation operates its own network and voice interconnects with a number of landline and mobile operators. Furthermore the business also operates and manages its own IP network and porting directly between other communications providers.

Having been established in 2019, the business is actively building its services and communication network by interconnecting with national and international networks before a planned full customer offering go-live date in Q3 of 2023.

To enhance its resilience, integrity and grow its operations as a communications provider, Voxyonder needed to build out in a datacentre ecosystem with the widest variety of interconnect options possible to increase its physical interconnects with other CPs (including ISPs). However, with a large portion of IP voice communication being delivered over the public internet, it was important that any relationships it built with third parties ensured the availability, integrity, security and confidentiality of that service from day one, as per the requirements set out in the recently introduced Telecommunications (Security) Act and Electronic Communications (Security Measures) Regulations published in the UK.

“Telehouse doesn’t do anything by halves. The organisation from the outset aimed to meet our security requirements and ensure the integrity of our network, meeting our uptime and availability needs. There are various recently introduced statutory requirements we need to adhere to, and some of that will involve the reliability of the supply chain. From that perspective, we feel very safe with Telehouse”

– Dr Nathaniel McInnes, Group Technical Director, Voxyonder

Telehouse stood out to Voxyonder due to the plethora of interconnectivity options it could provide. Its London Docklands campus hosts a wide range of major carriers and business partners. By opting to utilise a rack at the campus, the organisation could gain a significant presence in central London, whilst benefitting from the best-in-class connectivity offered by Telehouse.

Security was another major consideration for Voxyonder, as it wanted to ensure all customer data at rest and in transit would be remain as secure as possible. Again, Telehouse’s physical and cyber security protocols and historic record stood out to Voxyonder.

With Telehouse acting as the primary home of the London Internet Exchange (LINX), this was another benefit that appealed to Voxyonder. LINX is one of the largest Internet exchange platforms in the world, providing networks with a range of interconnection solutions including peering services.

“An aspect that surprised me about initially dealing with the Telehouse team was that unlike other data centre providers, they were extremely knowledgeable in our sector and clearly had experience dealing with the challenges we were looking to overcome. The team was also very willing and keen to see us succeed from the very beginning,” said Dr Nathaniel McInnes , Voxyonder’s Group Technical Director.

By choosing to utilise a rack in Telehouse, Voxyonder benefits from access to over 1000 connectivity partners to build its network and service communications offering to customers and work towards meeting its compliancy requirements.

Telehouse’s commitment to security standards, a key consideration for Voxyonder, are also met with Telehouse’s adherence to ISO 27001 (Information Security Management), meaning that Voxyonder can adhere to data confidentiality requirements. Furthermore, Telehouse’s extensive physical security measures, such as perimeter fencing, CCTV and even biometric access requirements, provides Voxyonder with additional peace of mind that its data remains safeguarded.

From that perspective, we feel very safe with Telehouse,” said McInnes.

Where a query has been made to the service desk, the business has benefitted from an immediate response to acknowledge that the change or optimisation is being worked on. The partnership has ultimately proved so successful that the business is exploring the possibility of expanding to other Telehouse’s data centres to increase resilience and redundancy.

“Telehouse adopts a customer service-driven mantra. I’ve not come across many companies where the customer, no matter its size, is made to feel like such a priority. Effective relationships with providers aren’t really defined by the initial interaction, but by how queries are dealt with once the partnership has begun. Telehouse has promptly addressed any concerns we’ve had while providing the cross connections we need to offer a compliant and well connected service for our customers,” concluded McInnes.
